To All Teenage
Drivers:
My name is Stephen
Bromstrup. On the night of June 17, 2002 I
caused a car accident that resulted in the
deaths of Alexandra Quaroni and Sarah Stone. Two
others were also seriously injured, not
including myself. It helps me to believe that
Sarah and Alexandra have gone to a better place
spiritually, however reality shows that these
girls are gone and the pain that I caused the
families of these girls will never leave my
mind.
All actions have
consequences. In my case, the consequences were
tremendously tragic. Showing off, fitting in and
being cool killed people. My actions were a
result of immaturity and irresponsibility while
driving.
I am writing this
letter to reach out to you. I want to stress to
you the importance of responsibility while
driving.
The parent-teen
driving contract is definitely a great way to
set a standard for anybody that drives. I have
read the contract and I could see that it might
be difficult to abide by in every situation and
at all times, however I believe it is very
important to follow its guidelines. Doing so
will help develop the degree of level of
responsibility needed to be a good, law-abiding
driver. Also, following the contract’s
provisions will make you a role model to others
around you, especially younger brothers and
sisters.
I cannot stress
enough the importance of responsible driving. I
am currently serving a seven -year prison
sentence for the consequences of my actions.
Nobody wants, and I mean nobody, to be where I
am today. I am mentally and physically hurt by
my surroundings everyday.
You are not
invincible, as I thought I was. Responsibility
is the key to driving. Sign the parent-teen
pledge, live the pledge.
Respectfully yours,
Stephen Bromstrup
